§ 101-19. Established.

  • There shall be a city planning and zoning commission, hereinafter referred to as the commission, consisting of seven members appointed by the mayor with the approval of the council.

    (1)

    Qualifications. The members shall be citizens of the city and qualified by knowledge or experience to act in matters pertaining to the development of a city plan and who shall not hold any elective office in city government.

    (2)

    Term of office. The term of office of the members of the commission shall be four years. The terms of not more than one-third of the members will expire in any one year.

    (3)

    Vacancies. If any vacancy shall exist on the commission caused by resignation, or otherwise, a successor for the remainder of the term shall be appointed in the same manner as the original appointee.

    (4)

    Resignation. A member shall be deemed to have resigned his position on the commission and a vacancy shall be deemed to exist on the commission if a member fails to attend three or more consecutive meetings of the commission without a satisfactory excuse submitted to the mayor and council.

    (5)

    Compensation. All members of the commission shall serve without compensation, except for their actual expenses, which shall be subject to the approval of the council.
