§ 4-97. Custody within city.

  • (a)

    No person shall own, keep or harbor a vicious or dangerous animal within the city.

    (b)

    The following are hereby excluded from this section:

    (1)

    Public zoos; fully accredited educational or medical institutions; a state licensed humane society or animal shelter; public museums duly licensed where such dangerous animals are kept as live specimens for public viewing; or for the purpose of instruction and research with required licensure.

    (2)

    Exhibitions to the public by a traveling circus, carnival, exhibit or show, duly licensed in accordance with the laws and ordinances of the state, the county and the city.

    (3)

    Dangerous animals in a licensed veterinary hospital for treatment.

    (4)

    Dangerous animals under the jurisdiction or in the possession of the state conservation commission.

    (5)

    Animals possessed under authority of a state-issued game breeder's license or scientific collectors license.

    (6)

    Dangerous animals maintained by the federal, state, or county government, or its designee, pursuant to the enforcement of this article.
