§ 30-21. City tree board.

  • The city tree board shall consist of nine persons who shall be appointed by the mayor, subject to the approval of the council. The term of members of the board shall be for three years. In the event a vacancy shall occur, any replacement appointed to the board shall be for the unexpired portion of the term. Members of the board shall serve without compensation. The duties and responsibilities of the board shall be as follows:

    (1)

    To prepare a written seasonal plan for the care, preservation, pruning, planting, replanting, removal or disposition of trees and shrubs in parks, along streets and in other public areas and to update the plan on an annual basis.

    (2)

    To present the updated plan to the council on an annual basis for the council's consideration and upon the council's approval the plan shall constitute the official comprehensive tree plan for the city.

    (3)

    To administer the comprehensive tree plan.

    (4)

    Upon request by the mayor or council, to consider, investigate, and report and make a recommendation as to any matter falling within the board's duties and responsibilities.

    (5)

    To establish three classes of trees: small trees, medium trees, large trees and designate at least six species of tree within each category. This list shall be known as the "Official Street Tree Species" for the city and shall be subject to approval by the council.
