§ 26-138. Special speed restrictions.

  • (a)

    In accordance with requirements of the state department of transportation, or whenever the council shall determine upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation that any speed limit herein set forth is greater or less than is reasonable or safe under the conditions found to exist at any intersection or other place or upon any part of the city street system, the council shall determine and adopt by ordinance such higher or lower speed limit as it deems reasonable and safe at such location.

    (b)

    The following special speed restrictions have been adopted by the council:

    (1)

    A speed in excess of 25 miles per hour shall be unlawful on any of the following designated streets or parts thereof: County Road on west corporate limits between Talmage Street and Clark Street.

    (2)

    Special 45 mph speed zones. A speed in excess of 45 miles per hour shall be unlawful on any of the following streets or parts thereof:

    a.

    County Road on west corporate limits, from Sherman Street to Clark Street.

    b.

    That portion of Iowa Highway No. 21 beginning at 100 feet south of Sherman Street south to the south corporate limits.

    (3)

    Special 40 mph speed zones. A speed in excess of 40 miles per hour shall be unlawful on any of the following streets or portions thereof: That portion of Iowa Highway No. 21 beginning at 100 feet south of Sherman Street thence north to 817 feet north of the intersection of Wilson Street and Iowa Highway No. 21.

    (4)

    Special 50 mph speed zones. A speed in excess of 50 miles per hour shall be unlawful on any of the following streets or portions thereof: That portion of Iowa Highway No. 21 beginning at the North City Limits thence South to 817 feet north of the intersection of Wilson Street and Iowa Highway No. 21.
